Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) is a two-step process to ensure security for your course account.

Every user accessing Myerscough College's online courses has to authenticate when they login.

Below is guidance on how to login and authenticate using multi-factor authentication

Step 1: Login to Canvas with your login and password.

Go to https://myerscough.instructure.com/login/canvas and enter your login (which will be your email) and password (which you will have chosen when buying your online course or had issued to you if you are an external verifier or an external user granted access). If you forget your password you can reset it using the forgot password link found on the login page.

You will then be presented with an authentication screen which can be a little confusing as it is written for the US market which is why you need to closely follow the instructions below. You will need a smart phone that can download apps for this process to work. *If you don't possess a smart phone you will need to download the authy app to your computer or laptop - see bottom of page for more on this.

**Step 2: Download and use an Authenticator Application on your mobile phone (*or computer)**

1. Download the Microsoft or Google Authenticator application to your Android or iPhone. For android users, you will download the authenticator application from “Play Store”. For iPhone users, you will download the authenticator application from the "App Store".

2. Login to myerscough.instructure.com/login/canvas

3. Enter your username and password (which will have been issued to you)

4. You will then be prompted with the following screen with a QR code on it:

5. Open the Authenticator App (Microsoft or Google that you downloaded to your phone)

6. (a) If you downloaded Microsoft Authenticator, follow the directions below:

Open the Microsoft Authenticator application on your mobile phone
Click on the + icon to add account. If you don’t see a plus sign, click on the 3 dots at the top right of the screen and choose + add account.
Choose “Other Account”.
You will be prompted to take a picture of a QR code like the one illustrated above (don't scan the image in these instructions!)
Your Microsoft Authenticator application will then provide a one-time password code.
You will enter the code in the verification code box highlighted above and click “verify”
You can also click on “Remember this computer”. This will keep you from having to enter a code every time you login to Canvas.

6. (b) If you downloaded Google Authenticator, follow the directions below:

Open the Google Authenticator application on your phone.
Click on the + icon on the bottom right of your screen.
Click “Scan QR Code”.
The Google Authenticator application on your mobile phone will provide with one-time password code.
You will enter the code in the verification box and click “verify”.
You can also click on “Remember this computer”. This will keep you from having to enter a code every time you login to Canvas.

7. Future Logins: Every time you login to Canvas after this you may be prompted to enter your code (if you didn't tick remember this computer). If presented with the screen below you will need to open up your Microsoft or Google Authentication application again, access the new code generated and enter it into the “verification code” box illustrated below and click "verify".

Change Password / Forgotten Password

If you want to change your password use the forgotten password link on the login screen.
